Authentic antique French medical kit, complete with staple forceps, anatomical forceps, and original metal staples, dating from the late 19th century – early 20th century (circa 1890–1910).
This set was used by doctors and surgeons to quickly close wounds with staples, a modern technique for the time, stemming from advances in antiseptic surgery.
In the late 19th century, surgery evolved thanks to asepsis and modern suturing techniques. Skin stapling allowed for faster wound closure, kept tissues aligned, and reduced operating time.
Portable kits like this one were used in medical offices, hospitals, and in field medicine, including by military doctors during World War I.
