Socket bayonet model 1822 – Beautiful piece with control hallmarks

French standard bayonet model 1822, designed for flintlock and then percussion infantry rifles.
Made of forged steel, it features a sharp-edged triangular blade, typical of bayonets of this era.
• Total length: 52.5 cm
• Blade length: 45 cm
• Blade shape: triangular, with central gutter
• Socket with L-shaped notch for locking onto the barrel tang
• Beautiful original patina, traces of use consistent with its age
• Clearly visible control punches on the sleeve and blade heel
• Clear markings of the controller or workshop (period letters and symbols)
• Uncleaned piece, in its original condition, ideal for demanding collectors

Used during the great campaigns of the 19th century, this bayonet embodies French military art under the July Monarchy and the Second Empire. A fine example of infantry weaponry, with the authenticity that only time can confer.
The 1822 model marks the transition between the weapons of the Empire and those of the 19th-century French army. Used notably in Algeria, during popular uprisings, and in the first armies of Louis-Philippe, this bayonet accompanied French soldiers in many colonial campaigns.
Rare piece in this condition, with perfectly legible hallmarks.
