Rare French Gras-type school bayonet, intended for the instruction of the school battalions of the Third Republic.
These reduced-size bayonets accompanied the school rifles inspired by the Gras system, used as part of the pre-military instruction implemented in French schools from the 1880s onwards.
Measuring 48 cm out of its scabbard with a 39 cm blade, this example has the characteristic dimensions of these reduced models. The crossguard bears the stamped number "18", while the locking spring is functional.
