Socket Bayonet • Model 1822 (France).
A 19th-century French standard, this Model 1822 socket bayonet is a remarkable historical piece, an absolute must-have for any collector of antique weapons or militaria enthusiast.
• Total length: 52.5 cm.
• Blade length: 45 cm.
• Triangular blade with central gutter — classic profile for this model.
• Socket with “L” notch for locking onto the barrel tang.
• Control hallmarks visible on the socket and heel of the blade — identifiable period controllers/workshops.
• Beautiful original patina, traces of use consistent with age, unpolished/intensively cleaned piece (in its “juice”) — ideal for purists of authenticity.
Adopted under the Restoration and then widely used during the July Monarchy, the Second Empire, and in the colonial campaigns of the 19th century, the model 1822 bayonet embodies a great era of the French army.
Its adaptation for flintlock rifles then transformed into percussion rifles bears witness to the technical evolution of the time.
The workshop hallmarks, the typical shape of the blade and socket, and the preservation of the bayonets in their original condition are all strong indicators of authenticity. Few Model 1822 bayonets survive with so many visible and intact elements.
Perfect piece for a collection of regulation weapons, for an exhibition or for an amateur looking for a reference piece in French military history.
Also ideal as a decorative object full of meaning.
