This pistol is an authentic piece from the regulation model 1777 1st type from the Manufacture de St Étienne and transformed into percussion , designed for the French cavalry on the eve of the Revolution.
It was later modified into percussion, as was frequently the case in the 19th century in order to prolong the use of these flintlock weapons in arsenals or for civilian use.

This model was initially issued to the dragoon and cuirassier regiments, and is distinguished by its robust lines, its brass fittings and its short, large-caliber barrel.
The flintlock system was replaced by a percussion mechanism, probably during the July Monarchy or the Second Empire.

Smooth round barrel, with side panels and dated "80" for 1780, then hallmarked with a fleur-de-lis under a crown and "B" in cursive letters for "Joseph BERTHEAS", controller of cannons from 1777 to 1785. The marking of the breech tail has disappeared. Flintlock lock marked "St Étienne", hallmarked "L" under a large crown for Étienne LAMBERT, controller from 1777 to 1784.

Model: 1777 1st type (transformed percussion).

Length: 34 cm.

Barrel: 19 cm.

Caliber: . 69 (approx. 17.5 mm).

Turntable converted to percussion.

Cast brass fittings, hallmarked "J" under crown.

Walnut stock.

Original nail head steel rod present.

Functional mechanism, with two clean, play-free cocking notches.

Compatible with our 69 cal. lead bullets, available for sale in the 'Militaria' "Lead Bullets" section.

The weapon no longer has its belt hook, generally fixed on the counter-plate, but remains complete and well preserved for a transformed example.
All metal parts with stained gray patina and varnished.

A fine transitional piece, a testament to the adaptations made to flintlock weapons in the face of the arrival of percussion systems.
A relevant addition to any collection covering the revolutionary and imperial era, or the weaponry of the July Monarchy.

(Wear and patina of time, belt hook missing, traces of handling on the wood of the stock. As is).

Weapon classified in category D2 § e. Free purchase and possession by adults. Proof of majority required: copy of the front and back of your national identity card or passport.
