A rare and emblematic piece, this bayonet-sabre model 1866 known as "Chassepot" was intended for naval rifles at the end of the Second Empire.
Long, elegant and functional, it is used in particular by French naval troops on board.

Intended for the armament of the French Navy.
Curved blade of the yatagan type.
Blade length: 57 cm.

Handle: Brass, grooved, with spring-loaded push button. (Functional).
Markings: stamped with the naval anchor, St-Etienne April 1872 and multiple hallmarks.
Scabbard: in bronzed iron with the same number.
Single registration number.
Adopted in 1866 with the Chassepot rifle model 1866, this saber-bayonet was primarily intended for the marine infantry and colonial troops. It symbolizes a pivotal period between the late Napoleonic conflicts and the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.
