Bayonet model 1866 known as "Chassepot", series Z, equipped with a double-pronged guard and a curved quillon pommel. Mounted with a yatagan-type blade and a steel scabbard. Example dated 1868, used until the Great War.

Total length: 69 cm.

Blade: Yatagan type curve.

Blade length: 57 cm.

Marking: Manufacture Imperial de St Etienne Juin 1868 and multiple hallmarks.

Handle: Brass, grooved, with spring-loaded push button. (Functional).

Bayonet holder strap bridge missing. 

Scabbard: in bronzed iron with the same number.

Single-number.

This iconic weapon was first designed to equip the Chassepot model 1866 rifle.

It continued to be used by French troops in colonial conflicts and even at the start of the First World War, before being gradually replaced.

An essential collector's item for any fan of French standard bladed weapons.
