Its name comes from the characteristic shape of the brass handle, which is reminiscent of a flintlock lighter.
Used in conjunction with the rifle, it was for a long time a symbol of bravery of the French troops.

Model: Infantry short sword.

Blade: Curved, flat back, single edge, 62 cm.
Handle: One-piece brass, with 28 grooves.

The briquet sword equipped French soldiers from the French Revolution and throughout the Napoleonic era. It was standardized under the Year IX and then Year XI models, and remained in service during the Restoration. It was used both for close combat and for ceremonial purposes.
