German model KS98 bayonet (Kurzes Seitengewehr 98) with saw teeth, manufactured in Solingen-Foche by Gottlieb Hammesfahr and dated 1916, in the midst of the First World War.
The city of Solingen, the historical center of German cutlery, was home to many military manufacturers, including Gottlieb Hammesfahr, known for the quality of his products.
The back of the blade bears the imperial crown marking / W / 16, corresponding to a reception during the reign of William II. (Wilhelm II).
Functional spring.
The sawtooth versions were controversial during the First World War . Many were modified during the war, which makes examples retaining their original teeth particularly sought after by collectors today.
