This is an original German paratrooper helmet, used by the Bundeswehr (Federal Republic of Germany) between approximately 1961 and 1980. It is the Modell 1A1 "Luftlandetruppenstahlhelm" (M1A1 LL), a specific version adapted for airborne troops, derived from modern M1 helmets but inspired by the design of paratrooper helmets from before and during World War II.
The robust steel shell, painted in matte olive green, is fitted with an original leather liner and chinstrap, designed to provide stability and comfort during jumps and combat. This helmet represents direct evidence of the equipment used by the West German army during the Cold War and beyond, before its replacement by composite models in the 1990s.
Type: Paratrooper helmet – Bundeswehr.

This post-war German paratrooper helmet is a must-have for 20th-century militaria enthusiasts and collectors of foreign military equipment. It represents the Cold War period when armies modernized their equipment while maintaining classic designs.
It will fit perfectly into a collection of European military helmets, a post-war weaponry display case, or a themed decoration on airborne forces.
History & Context:
After World War II, the Bundeswehr adopted a helmet inspired by the US M1 helmet, designated Modell 1A1, for all its troops. For paratroopers, a specific version was developed, combining the M1A1 shell with an interior and chinstrap inspired by the historical German paratrooper helmet to meet the needs of jumps and airborne forces.
The Modell 1A1 LL (“Luftlandetruppenstahlhelm”) was in service from 1961, and remained in use until the 1980s, until the arrival of modern helmets made of composite materials.
