Socket bayonet • Model 1822 (France).
This 19th-century French regulation bayonet, model 1822, is a remarkable historical piece, an absolute must-have for any collector of antique weapons or militaria enthusiast.
• Total length: 52.5 cm.
• Blade length: 45 cm.
• Triangular blade with central gutter — classic profile for this model.
• Socket with "L" shaped notch for locking onto the barrel lug.
• Control hallmarks visible on the socket and tang of the blade — identifiable period inspectors / workshops.
• Beautiful original patina, signs of wear consistent with age, piece not polished/intensively cleaned (in its “as is”) — ideal for purists of authenticity.
Adopted during the Restoration and then widely used during the July Monarchy, the Second Empire, and in the colonial campaigns of the 19th century, the 1822 model bayonet embodies a great era of the French army.
Its adaptation for flintlock rifles and later converted to percussion testifies to the technical evolution of the time.
The workshop's inspection marks, the typical shape of the blade and socket, and the preservation in its original condition—all these signs are strong indicators of authenticity. Few Model 1822 bayonets survive with so many visible and intact features.
A perfect piece for a collection of regulation weapons, for an exhibition or for an enthusiast looking for a reference piece in French military history.
Also ideal as a decorative object full of meaning.
