This Gras 1866/74 rifle is a major historical piece of French weaponry. Derived from the transformation of the famous Chassepot model 1866 rifle, it was modified to accommodate an 11x59 mm black powder metallic cartridge, meeting the requirements of the modern battlefield after the defeat of 1870. An emblematic transitional weapon, between tradition and innovation.

Model: Gras 1866/74 (regulatory transformation of Chassepot 1866).
Caliber: 11 mm Bold (11×59R).
System: straight bolt, movable breech with pivoting head.
Barrel: faceted then round, original graduated rear sight.

Stock: walnut wood, hallmarked and dated 1872 and 1880 (2 macaroons).
Sanded and oiled, redone on period wood.
