The Model 1777 rifle, designed by the artillerist Gribeauval, is one of the most emblematic of the Napoleonic army, adopted by the French army at the end of the Ancien Régime.
The corrected version in An IX (1801) brought significant improvements, particularly to the lock plate and bayonet, thus strengthening its reliability and robustness on the battlefields of the Napoleonic Wars.
