This superb 1831 model infantry broadsword embodies the soul of the 19th-century French soldier. This is a particularly interesting example, made by JEAN, with its original, matching-numbered scabbard, making it a rare and cohesive collector's item.

Blade: 49 cm, straight, wide, double-edged.
Handle: 26-groove brass.
Scabbard: black leather with brass chape and rivet, same number as the sword.
Markings: JEAN on the blade, multiple punches, single number.
Adopted under the July Monarchy and used until the Third Republic, the 1831 model sword is the traditional weapon of the French infantry.
