The GRAS Model 1874 M80 artillery carbine is a shortened version of the famous Gras rifle, specially designed for artillerymen and mounted troops. This iconic piece from the Third Republic features a robust and precise mechanism, faithful to the legacy of the Chassepot rifle converted to metallic cartridge.
Model: GRAS Mle 1874 M80 Artillery Carbine.
Caliber: 11 mm Gras.
Barrel: dated 1882.
Mechanism: Straight-pull bolt action – single shot.
Conversion: Chassepot system modified to Gras.
Markings: receiver marked "Manufacture d'armes St Etienne".
Length: 100.5 cm (shortened model).
Walnut stock, (sanded, oiled, redone on period wood).
Different numbers, brass fittings, iron ramrod.
Compatible with the Gras Mle 1874 bayonet.

Adopted at the end of the 19th century, the Gras M80 carbine was used in numerous colonial campaigns and in the early years of the First World War. Designed for troops with reduced mobility (artillery, gendarmerie, cavalry), it combines compactness and robustness.
