An authentic Model 1816 T bis cavalry pistol, manufactured in 1821, this example perfectly illustrates the evolution of French regulatory weaponry in the 19th century. Initially produced as a flintlock version, it underwent the official transformation of 1861, adopting the percussion system as well as the regulatory improvements of the T bis model.
Intended to equip the cavalry regiments of the French army, the Model 1816 succeeded the weapons of the First Empire. Thanks to its robustness, it remained in service for several decades before being modernized in imperial factories to meet advances in weaponry.

The Model 1816 remained in production for only a short time before being replaced by the Model 1822, which was very similar in design but produced in much larger numbers. This short production period explains why authentic Model 1816s are significantly less common on the collector's market today.
