Adopted by the French army in 1873 for non-commissioned officers (model 1873) and then for officers in 1874, the Chamelot-Delvigne revolver equipped French forces until the beginning of the 20th century, surviving colonial conflicts and even the First World War.
Its 11mm73 caliber black powder, its reliability and its simplicity of operation made it a weapon appreciated by both military and civilians.
