Made during the Second Empire (Napoleon III), in the famous Mutzig factory, this sword-bayonet was mounted on the Chassepot rifle, the basic weapon of French infantry troops in the 1860s-1870s.

The Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871) marked the peak and then the decline of this type of weapon, but period examples, with their clear markings, remain highly sought after by collectors.

Recommended use: historical collection, military reenactment, museum piece or prestigious decoration.
