Adopted in the early 1950s by the French army, the Model 1951 (M51) helmet gradually replaced the pre-war Adrian helmet. It was inspired by the American M1 helmet.
The 1951 model equipped French forces during the decolonization conflicts.
This shell alone, without interior or chinstrap, can be suitable for restoring a complete helmet, historical reenactment, French militaria collection, or vintage military decoration.
The white/grey shade may correspond to a specific use (training, law enforcement, regimental repainting, or subsequent civilian use).
Country: France.
Model: 1951 (M51).
Type: Shell only.
Material: Steel.
Color: White / Grey.
Period: 1950s–1970s.
The M51 helmet marks an important transition in French military equipment: the abandonment of the Adrian style in favor of a more enveloping and ballistically modern helmet.
It is an emblematic piece of the post-war French army and remains sought after by collectors of Algerian War and Indochina militaria.
