The "Orphans of the Legion of Honor" Medal was struck by the Paris Mint in 1810.
It was created to honor the orphans of knights of the Legion of Honor, a symbolic attribute combining recognition and memory.
It was designed by the engraver Jean-Bertrand Andrieu (1761-1822), with the artistic influence of Dominique-Vivant Denon (1747-1825), a key figure in French medalism at the time.
