This handcrafted bottle is a fine example of trench art made from brass shell casings during the First World War.
Made from several assembled elements, this container bears witness to the ingenuity of soldiers who transformed battlefield materials into utilitarian objects or souvenirs.
The object has an slender cylindrical shape with a screw-on top cap. The container is watertight, suggesting use as a bottle or canteen flask, although the exact use cannot be determined with certainty – which is common for this type of handcrafted production.
